Minutes of Proceedings of the Committee appointed by

His Excellency the Governor to consider the designs

submitted in competition for a new Clock Tower at

the base of Blake Pier.

Meeting held in the Office of the Director

of Public Works on Thursday, 16th May, 1901.

Present, all Members, viz.-

W. Chatham (Chairman)

C. Mol. Messer.

C. P. Chater.

J. Thurburn.

Dr. Ho Kai.

The three designs, which had been received

were carefully considered.

They were signed respectively.-

1. "Bon Accord".

2. "Tempus Omnia Vincit".

3. "Tempus Fugit".

The Committee were unanimously of opinion

that the design signed "Bon Accord" should be awarded the

premium of $250. They considered the amount of the remuneration somewhat inadequate for the labour involved in the preparation of the design, which had been carefully worked out and bestowed evidence of much skill and thought.

The Committee recommended that a sum of

$100 should be paid to the competitor who submitted the design "Tempus Omnia Vincit".

All the Members expressed the opinion

that the dial of the existing clock to which competitors

were bound by the conditions of competition, was of insufficient size for a tower of the dimensions shown and should be increased
